All New Mazda 6 debut

An all new Mazda6 sedan has been unvailed at the Moscow Auto Show. It's quite pretty isn't it? Styling isn't the only thing that got an overhaul in the new Mazda6, just about everything else did.

Styling first, it's the end product of what Mazda calls the "Kodo- Soul of Motion" design language. Whatever. The new Mazda6 looks modern, sleek and quite sexy for a family sedan. The old Mazda6 wasn't a minger, but it didn't have the presence like a lot of its European rivals. The all new Mazda6 is longer, spanning 4,800mm in lenght, but also more butch. It's like Mike Tyson in a tuxedo: large, but sophisticated at the same time.
Despite its length, the new Mazda6 is lighter than the car it replaces. The 2.0 petrol saloon weighs in at 1,340kg, almost 100kg less than the old 6 and less than 200kg than the S class equivalent. Mazda has managed to strip all the weight down, not by removing necessities, but by using clever and light-weight materials. The new Mazda6 is built by using high-tensile steel, which not only makes the car lighter, but improves rigidity.
Engine wise, the Mazda 6 will launch with a 2.0 liter four with 148 horsepower and a 2.5 with 189, both from the SkyActiv stable. SkyActiv motors come with higher compression ratios, better pistons and injectors and a bunch of other tweaks to make petrol as explosey as possible - which sounds fun.
SkyActiv diesels will follow, pinched from the CX-5 crossover. Both, petrols and diesel motors will be available in either a six-speed manual or a SkyActiv-Drive automatic.

There's also a clever brake regeneration system called the i-Eloop. The i-Eloop will generate lost kinetic energy when the driver lifts off the throttle, or something. Anyways, Mazda reckons it will improve economy by up to 10 per cent. In case you think the new and larger Mazda6 is err, too small, there's an estate version to debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year.
