The Day I Met The Aventador

It's not everyday you see an Aventador in New Zealand. To be quite honest, I was never quite sold when I saw the Aventador in magazines or on the net. It looked very dramatic, yes, but I didn't love it. My all-time favorite Lamborghini has always been the Diablo. Until I saw the Aventador in person.
Trust me, no matter how many videos you watch on the internet, no matter how many times you race one in Gran Turismo or Forza - seeing one in person is just a completely different experience. There would have to be something monumentaly wrong with you for you to not love this car. Everything about it, from the noise it makes to the phantasmagorical and over-the-top styling, is nothing short of breath-taking.
Enjoy the pics ! :-)

Porsche 918 Spyder First Drive on EVO

EVO TV Harry Matcalfe Porsche 918
Evo Director, Harry Matcalfe takes a ride in the latest upcoming Porsche supercar, the 918 Spyder. The 918 Spyder is the ultimate Porsche supercar since the Carrera GT almost ten years ago. You might therefore be quite surprised that it's a hybrid!

Yup that's right the 918 Spyder is a powered by a hybrid engine. Don't for a second think this has anything in common with the likes of the dreadful Prius. The engine itself has been re-rated at 585 horsepower and then for a little bit extra "oomph", two electric motors bump the power up to around 795 horsepower. That's serious power for relatively light-weight, little supercar.

Check out the video below for yourself.

Ferrari FXX Antics. How Not To Treat A $1.8million Customer

You'd think that if you were hand picked by Ferrari to take part in the uber-exclusive FXX program, you would be treated with a heck of a lot of respect. Well, this video actually proves the opposite!

The Ferrari navigator not only slams the door of the customers $1.8 million track-toy, but goes as far as to Karate-chop the bonnet! See the action unfold for yourself below.

Quite Possibly The Coolest Ferrari 458 Italia

autogoss.blogspot.com

Murdered-out Ferrari 458 Italia features a Novitec bodykit and PUR alloys for a sinister look on this Italian supercar

Canadian-based tuning company, SR Group presents project "Black Mist". Based on the Ferrari 458 Italia, the package includes a Novitec bodykit with a new front lip spoiler, rear diffuser and rear wing.
PUR 1NE alloys, 21 inches up front and 22 inches in the rear are finished in glossy black and complete the murdered-out look.

The end result is one badass looking 458 and quite possibly the coolest one out there.

Jaguar F-Type Debuts In Paris

AutoGoss.Blogspot.com
After months of teasers and anticipation, Jaguar has lifted the veil on the all new 2014 Jaguar F-Type. The roadster, which takes inspiration from the classic E-Type, will be available as a convertible, with a coup version slated to follow in the coming months. The all-allmunium F-Type will come in three trims: the F-Type, F-Type S and F-Type S V8. The difference comes down to the engine. The base model comes with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.

The F-Type S upgrades the same engine with 380 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque and the F-Type V8 packs a supercharged V8 with 495 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The V8 model gets from 0-60mph in a speedy 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 185 mph. The standard F-Type does the 0-60 sprint in a respectable 5.1 seconds and has a top speed of 161mph.

An active exhaust system enhances the exhaust note and for a first time in a Jag, launch control optimizes acceleration runs. The F-Type S comes with a limited slip diff, while the V8 Jag will come with an active electronic differential.
Autogoss.blogspot.com

The stunning Jag cockpit will cater from 10-12 speakers and LCD instruments. The F-Type will go on sale in the US next summer with prices starting at $69,000 US for the base model. The top of the line version will likely be around the $100k mark.

If I Won The Lotto, I Wouldn't Buy A Supercar

You always hear it go something like this, " if I won the lottery, I would buy a Lamborghini." The thing is, I have thought about this scenario a hundred times in my head and have come to this conclusion; I wouldn't buy a supercar, even if I won a million bucks.

I think it's mostly because I like the "idea" of owning a supercar, rather than owning an actual supercar. My list of things to get would definitely include a car though. It just wouldn't be a Ferrari, Lamborghini or anything with "600 horsepower and a $600,000 price tag." It would be something a little bit more sensible. It would be an M3. At over $100,000 NZ, the new V8 BMW M3 isn't what you would call "cheap". Unless you're a millionaire that is. If you're a millionaire, than $100,000 on a car probably seems pretty reasonable. So why would I buy a BMW, when I could buy something far more exclusive and expensive?

Well, for starters a million dollars isn't actually that much. There is a Lamborghini Aventador listed on TradeMe at the moment for $625,000 NZ. If you're reading this and you don't live in New Zealand, TradeMe is pretty much New Zealand's Ebay. Say you actually brought the Aventador. That's more than half of your lottery money spent. On a car that would most likely spend most of its time in your garage. With you checking up on it in the middle of the night to make sure your neighbor didn't jump over the fence to steal your precious supercar. Mind you, you'd probably hear them driving off in a Lamborghini, but that's besides the point. The point is, if you owned a car like that, you would constantly worry about it. I know I would. I wouldn't take it anywhere, because I'd be too damn scared someone would crash into it, spit on it, kick it, or take a giant turd on it when I leave it unattended for more than two minutes.

Also, I live in Auckland, New Zealand. Not only are a lot of the drivers here, what's the word for it, awful, the speed laws here are atrocious. Besides, what good is a car that can do "just a little over 230mph", when most of the time, you will be stuck in traffic? I would literally never get anywhere near the limit of of my supercar's capabilities. The BMW M3 seems far more usable. For starters, it's understated, so you won't have to worry about it when you park it to buy a tall-mocha-with-cream from Starbucks. Because it wasn't designed to go as fast as it possibly could around the Nurbugring, it will go over speed bumps and when it gets a little nippy, provide warm air to your face with its air conditioning. See, when you spend $100,000 dollars on a car, I'd like to think that you'd want to use it. To use it, it has to be usable. There's no point taking your supercar on a road trip, if, when you arrive  you're going to be all sweaty, uncomfortable and with a broken back.

That's why I wouldn't buy a supercar even if I won the lottery. I'd buy a nice car I could use every day and use the rest of the money to buy other nice things. The BMW M3 is the car I would buy, because it has everything I am looking for in a car. Great performance when you need it and the ability to be a "normal car" when you don't. I personally think that in silver or white, it's a great looking car, and in black, it's sex on wheels.

This Is The Successor To The McLaren F1

This is the successor to one of the greatest cars ever built, the McLaren F1. It's called the P1 and McLaren's goal with it is quite simple,  "to be the best driver's car in the world on the road and track."

Autogoss.blogspot.com

Don't get too excited by the images. While I say that "this" is it, it's actually just a design concept at this stage. It sort of looks like a stretched out and more hardcore MP4-12C. While the MP4-12C is a great supercar, it never quite achieved that same level of engineering perfection as the original F1 did when it launched in the 90's.

Autogoss.blogspot.com

Not only did you get an engine bay lined with 19 carat gold, you also got, actually that's all you got. You didn't get no ABS. No power steering. No nothing. The F1 was a true drivers car. You step in and you do the driving. The MP4-12C, with all its clever traction control and suspension witchcraft, more-or-less does the driving for you. Even though the F1 is now, like twentyish years old, it still manages to do a whooping 242 miles per hour. Very few cars, supercars, come close to that sort of performance even today.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis says "the McLaren P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road heritage. Twenty years ago, we raised the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redifine it once again."

AutoGoss.blogspot.com
We will have to wait until 2013 for a production version of the McLaren P1 and at least another 12 months after that for the actual car to land. Even so, this early sneak view should give you a lot to get excited about.

Koenigsegg BLT Special

Autogoss.blogspot.com
Koenigsegg's idea of a BLT looks something like this $1.5 million dollar Special Edition Agera R.

Officially dubbed as the Agera R BLT, it is the first car to demonstrate Koenigsegg's new personalization service. Commisioned for a certain Chinese customer, the Agera R BLT features a very cool looking clear blue-tinted carbon finish with contrasting red highlights that would make even Spider-Man jealous.
Autogoss.blogspot.com
The stock five-spoke wheels have been replaced by these new multi-spoke rims that attract a premium over the already gigantic $1.5 million dollar price tag. Other details include blue and red quilted seats, blue around the dash and Alcantara trim on the door panels.

Autogoss.blogspot.com
The twin-turbo V8 is basically unchanged, carrying over the same 1,140 horsepower, a 0-100km/h of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of around 439km/h. The man himself, Christian Von Koenigsegg, said "We're thrilled with the result and we hope the customer will like his car as much as we do." Don't know about you, but I certainly like it.

Zenvo ST 1 : This Danish Packs A Punch!

Autogoss.blogspot.com
The Zenvo ST 1 is a 7 liter V8 supercar from, wait for it, Denmark! Now, Denmark is famous for many things, from stylish castles to Viking remains, but never for building a supercar. Until now, of course. Zenvo was created by three individuals who wanted to achieve what Bugatti, Koenigsegg and Pagani had done before them.

Autogoss.blogspot.com
The guys with the vision had a blank canvas. They could create any shape and mount whatever engine they wanted inside the body. The result is a striking and fierce looking car with an equally aggressive engine mounted in the middle. The 7 liter is both, supercharged and turbocharged. That's a recipe for some impressive figures. We're talking proper, big numbers. Numbers like1,104hp, 0-100km/h in 3 seconds and a claimed top-speed of over 375km/h.

Autogoss.blogspot.com
So how much does this Danish cost? Well, it isn't cheap. The Zenvo is made to be ubber exclusive and only 15 will ever be made, each carrying a $850,000 US price tag. I'm not entirely certain the Zenvo looks like its worth almost a million dollars, but it's likely to make a nice addition for someone that already owns a Veyron and a Zonda.

6 Busted! Burnouts

Autoshows attract a lot of car enthusiasts - and cops. There were tons of great burnouts at last years Bimmerfest, so this year, the police were out in full force. That obviously didn't stop this idiot from lighting it up right in front of one.

Maybe it's something about BMW drivers that urges them to do burnouts whenever, wherever. Maybe by doing a burnout they think that their 2liter BMW four-door is actually a brand new V8 M3. Whatever, this idiot didn't even bother to look around, because if he did, he would have seen the cop car that was watching him all along.

While money can buy you a Ferrari, it most certainly can't buy you any common sense. Ferrari's can cause a stir on the roads and attract a lot of attention. You'd think that knowing that, if you drove one around, you'd be a little bit careful. This idiot obviously didn't think so.

Fully sick Honda burnout in the parking lot bro! Look at how cool this idiot thought he was, burning rubber in front of his mates, in a lit up carpark. Bet the cop didn't think he looked that cool.

So you got yourself a Mustang huh? What better way than to show off the power of your muscle car than a big, smokey burnout right? Well this idiot thought that was a good idea. The Houston Police that arrested him, didn't agree.

This is the icing on the cake. This idiot was driving around the streets of Perth in Australia for a good five minutes, casually doing burnouts on the way. The driver was so clueless, he even let's his passenger get out for a little wee. What he didn't know was that a Police helicopter was watching his antics from above and lead the Police right outside his doorstep.

Hungry For Horsepower? Hennesey's Creations

In case you haven't heard about Hennessey Performance, they are a Texas based tuning shop that creates the sort of horsepower that would make even a Buggati Veyron a little shy. From a pick up truck with 800 horsepower to the mighty 1244 horsepower Venom GT supercar, Hennessey knows how to do big horsepower.
Hennessey's latest creation is a Bugatti-Besting 1266hp Cadillac CTS-V. The Cadillac powerhouse packs a 7.0liter twin turbo V8 good for 1,066hp at the wheels. Hennessey claims a 0-100 in 2.9 seconds (as long as you put the power down to the road) and a blistering 10.2 second quarter mile. Perhaps even more impressive is the top speed. To get to the point, it's 242mph. Hennessey plans to build just 12 of these monstrous machines which will feature a full carbon wide body.
Ever looked at your pick up and thought it needs more power? John Hennessey obviously did. Hennessey takes a brand new Ford Raptor pick up, adds boost and a disturbingly loud exhaust and give you, what they call, the Velociraptor. If you have a spare US $16,000 and a Ford Raptor, the 600 horsepower Velociraptor can be all yours. Oh and if that's not enough power for you than the package comes with some blow as well. How does more than 800 horsepower sound? Yup, Hennessey offers a twin turbo 800 horsepower Velociraptor to satisfy your horsepower cravings.
The baddest, meanest and angriest Hennessey creation is the Venom GT. John Hennessey basically looked at at a Lotus Exige and thought " I wonder what this tiny, light weight, go-kart would be like with over a thousand horsepower and two turbos." That's how the Venom GT was born. The Venom GT weighs only 1244kg  and has 1244 horsepower. To put that into perspective, the Buggatti Veyron gets from 0-200mph in 24.2 seconds. Want to guess how quickly the Venom GT manages the 0-200mph sprint? Nope, you're quite wrong. It does it in 15.3 seconds! It's a car for the insane. You have to admit though, it is a seriously cool piece of kit. Which is probably why Steven Tylor brought one.
